The Most Unique Person

Jesus Christ is often compared to other prophets and teachers, but He is the most unique person to ever live. Everything from His birth to after His death was miraculous and set Him apart from everyone else. Jesus was born by a virgin -- a natural impossibility. Before His mother Mary was married, she was told by an angel she would give birth to the Son of God. When she asked him how this could be, he answered, "The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God." Just as promised, the virgin Mary gave birth to Jesus Christ, the most incredible person to ever have lived.

                                                                                                         An Amazing Life

with various diseases and torments. and He healed them." Threatened by His fame and authority, the political and religious authorities conspired to kill Him.Jesus' life was just as amazing as His birth. At 30 years old, He went out into the cities of Israel and began teaching and healing people. The Bible records that He was different from other preachers, for "the people were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes." Likewise, there was no disease too great for His power. It says, "They brought to Him all sick people who were afflicted

                                                                                                           A Sudden Death

His death had been predicted over a thousand years before. The prophet Isaiah wrote of Jesus, "He was wounded for our transgressions, bruised for our iniquities, the chastisement for our peace was upon Him and by His stripes we are healed." Jesus would pay the penalty for our sins so that we could be forgiven and have eternal life. Just as had been predicted, Jesus was given the most brutal death sentence of that day for maintaining that He was the Son of God. While hanging on a wooden cross with spikes through His hands and feet, He prayed, "Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do." Jesus had power to come down from the cross, but He chose to sacrifice His life for others.

                                                                                                 The Promise is for You

Just as promised, God raised His Son Jesus back to life -- eternal life -- on the third day after His burial. He was seen by His closest friends and over 500 of His followers before He went up into heaven before their very eyes. After His resurrection, his close friend Peter told a great crowd to repent from their sins and believe in Jesus Christ to be saved, "for the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are far off, as many as the Lord our God will call." This promise is for you! There are many religions and prophets, but no one but Jesus Christ offers complete forgiveness from your sins and eternal life with God. He has already died for your sins; now you must put your faith in Him. "For if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." If you believe in Jesus, you can pray a prayer like this right now and receive the gift of eternal life.

"Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God and the Savior of the world. Thank you for coming to Earth and dying so that I could have eternal life. Please forgive all my sins. I am going to follow You with my life now. Please fill me with Your Holy Spirit and direct my steps. In Jesus' name, Amen."

 

1. God Loves You!

The Bible says, "God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life"

The problem is that . . .

2. All of us have done, said or thought things that are wrong. This is called sin, and our sins have separated us from God.

The Bible says “All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” God is perfect and holy, and our sins separate us from God forever. The Bible says “The wages of sin is death.”

The good news is that, about 2,000 years ago,

3. God sent His only Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins.

Jesus is the Son of God. He lived a sinless life and then died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins. “God demonstrates His own love for us in that while we were yet sinners Christ died for us.”

Jesus rose from the dead and now He lives in heaven with God His Father. He offers us the gift of eternal life -- of living forever with Him in heaven if we accept Him as our Lord and Savior. Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except by Me."

God reaches out in love to you and wants you to be His child. "As many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe on His name." You can choose to ask Jesus Christ to forgive your sins and come in to your life as your Lord and Savior.

4. If you want to accept Christ as Savior and turn from your sins, you can ask Him to be your Savior and Lord by praying a prayer like this:

"Lord Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins.  Please forgive my sins and give me the gift of eternal life.  I ask you in to my life and heart to be my Lord and Savior. I want to serve you alway

 

 

 Difference Between Jesus and Other Prophets:

1) Miracle Birth:

    Jesus Christ      : Bible and Quran says about the Miracle Birth of Jesus.(without Human INT)

    Other Prophets  : No Miracle Birth.

    Note: Adam was the first person  without INT.But There after all Babies Born with Human INT.All prophets there after Adam, Born Like us.If God only seeing Jesus is Just a prophet,then what is the need of such Miracle Birth?


2) Sinless:

    Jesus Christ      : Bible and Quran says that Jesus  sinless.

    Other Prophets  : Never mentioned about that.

    Note: About Adam story:- When adam and Eve disobey Great God by eating Fruit.God said to both that you both did       sins as a result you have to die and also God through out from Garden. So Adam was sinner.But jesus was not sinner thats was jesus was still Alive.


3) Still Alive:

    Jesus Christ      : Bible and Quran says that Jesus is Still alive in heaven and will return back to earth.

    Other Prophets  : All prophets died and we cant say they are still living.( From this point we can understand that Holly Bible says that All humans are sinners and will die. But jesus still alive and is not a simple messenger)


4)  Miracles:

     Jesus christ      : Did many miracles including given soul to Lazar, walked on sea.,Healing of wounds, Given eye sight etc

     Other prophets : Not at all like jesus.

5) SINS:

    Jesus Christ: Came this world with miracle Birth as a savior to take sins of Humans.Bible says all humans are sinners.

    other Prophets: Never said that they will take our sins.

  Note: Many prophets came and preached and some made many laws.Whats Happend then, we continue done our sins.So jesus know making new laws will not Help Humans , so jesus came as a savior to take our sins.

6) Will return:

    Jesus Christ      : will return back

    Other Prophets  : will not.

How can we say that Jesus is Just a messanger or Prophet?


7) No One

    Jesus Christ : Said No one will reach God without Jesus.

    Other prophets: Are only Just a Messangers Of God.

 Jesus said I and my Father are one.No prophets never said this.

 Jesus said iam alpha and omega the first and last

  Quran says jesus will witness against you,if you didnt believe Jesus.

Isaiah 62:8      

The Bible says in Isaiah 62:8-9, “The LORD hath sworn by his right hand, and by the arm of his strength, Surely I will no more give thy corn to be meat for thine enemies; and the sons of the stranger shall not drink thy wine, for the which thou hast laboured: But they that have gathered it shall eat it, and praise the LORD; and they that have brought it together shall drink it in the courts of my holiness.” In telling us about the future 1,000 year reign of Christ, we are being told of one of its benefits here in these verses. If you labor, then you should be able to enjoy the fruits of your labor. That is a matter of justice and fair-play. When someone labors, and they must give the fruits of their labors to others, that is called oppression. Economic freedom one of the basic concepts of capitalism and of freedom.


It says in the Declaration of Independence, “We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.” The problem with socialism is that it is based upon the concept that money by way of taxes and fees will be taken from those who produce money, and the money will be dispersed in the way of benefits to those who have not earned enough to take care of themselves. But the “pursuit of happiness” does not mean that people are guaranteed happiness, it only means that they are guaranteed the opportunity and the freedom to pursue the development of their gifts and abilities. But through lack of effort or lack of ability, an individual may rise only so far. The important thing is that each person be given the opportunity to go as far as their abilities and the grace of God will take them. On the other hand if you reward people when they have not made an effort, then you destroy initiative. 

If you do succeed from the standpoint of material things, then it is important that you give God the glory. Some people only look to God when they are in trouble, but when they have prosperity they forget God. It says in Isaiah 62:9, “But they that have gathered it shall eat it, and praise the LORD.


The Bible says in Isaiah 62:10, “Go through, go through the gates; prepare ye the way of the people; cast up, cast up the highway; gather out the stones; lift up a standard for the people.” These great blessings will take place when Jesus Christ sits upon the throne of David in Jerusalem. When we are told to “go through the gates,” we are being told to enter into that wonderful city, Jerusalem, once it has become the capital city of the entire world. Wwill enter into the city of Jerusalem that is governed righteously. Finally, we will have in Jesus Christ the Ruler that we all need: the King of kings. He will make just laws and right decisions. There will be no corruption, and no inequalities, and there will be peace like a river. Having the Prince of Peace on the throne will guarantee a kingdom of peace.


The Bible says in Isaiah 62:11, “Behold, the Lord hath proclaimed unto the end of the world, Say ye to the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy salvation cometh; behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.” The first part of Isaiah 62:11 is a very interesting phrase. It says, “the Lord hath proclaimed unto the end of the world.” Even if Christians stop being witnesses and stop preaching the gospel, the Lord will not stop. If He cannot get any people to speak for Him, then He will cause the rocks to cry out, if necessary. But this is for certain: Jesus will make sure that the truth is proclaimed all the way until “the end of the world.” Of course, this means that there will be an end to the world as we know it. In other words the current system whereby nations rise up against nation; and the power of government is always looking for new ways to dominate and control the populace will come to an end. All of these present day power-struggles will have their culmination in the antichrist, who will dominate human beings through government to an extent that no one else has ever done. But even during the reign of the antichrist during the seven-year tribulation period, the gospel of Jesus will be preached in the world. God will make certain of that.    

The second part of Isaiah 62:11 also has an important truth. It says, “Say ye to the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy salvation cometh; behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.” Of course, this refers to the Second Coming of Christ primarily. “Thy salvation” is Jesus. The angel said to Joseph in Matthew 1:21, “thou shalt call his name Jesus, for he shall save his people from their sins.” When Jesus returns, all of these great things revealed in this part of Isaiah will be fulfilled entirely. When Jesus returns, all the problems of the world will be fixed.


Notice that Isaiah 62:11 says that when Jesus returns “his reward is with him.” Remember that in Isaiah 62:6-7 we were told to be watchmen and spokesmen until “he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth.” When Jesus returns He is going to have rewards to give out to those who have faithfully done that which He asked them to do. Jesus said in Revelation 22:12, “And behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.” The rewards that believers will gain or lose is not a small matter. We are saved by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, but there will be rewards in heaven for those who earn them. The greatest need for any person is to go to heaven instead of hell. That is why Jesus said in Mark 8:36, “For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?”

Looking towards eternity, after salvation the second most important goal of all to gain is rewards from Christ. What will those rewards be? We have some information about that when we understand that the Word of God informs us that at least some of the rewards are called “crowns.” There are four or five crowns described in the New Testament as rewards that Christians can gain or lose. The first crown is mentioned in First Thessalonians 2:19 that says, “For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Are not even ye in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at his coming?” The very people in the church at Thessalonica were Paul’s crown. In other words when you witness to someone, or when you lead someone to Christ, or when you teach someone from the Bible, you are adding to your crown. You too can have a crown of rejoicing if there are people whom you have touched with God’s Word. Evidently this same crown was referred to in Philippians 4:1 where Paul wrote, “Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast in the Lord, my dearly beloved.” 


Concerning the crown of righteousness, The Apostle Paul wrote in Second Timothy 4:8, “Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” This reward is evidently for those who “love his appearing.” In other words those who look for, wait for, and hope for the return of Christ will receive this reward. To faithfully look for the return of Christ in this way implies a faithfulness to Christ in other ways too, such as stated by Paul in the verses just before this one. It says in First Timothy 4:7, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.”


There is a crown of glory. The Bible says in First Peter 5:4, “And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.” This is a reward for pastors. Of course, not every pastor shall earn this reward. The requirements for winning this reward are found in First Peter 5:1-3, “The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed: Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind; Neither as being lords over God’s heritage, but being ensamples to the flock.” There are several major requirements for pastors. The fact that there are very few pastors who fulfill these requirements shows us that we are in the last days. The first command to pastors is to “feed” the flock of God. In other words feed them God’s Word. God’s Word is the spiritual food. Many pastors have a lot to say about themselves or about current events, but how many are teaching the whole counsel of God from God’s Word?


Another important criteria for a pastor to receive this reward from Christ is to make sure that he is not doing the work of a pastor “for filthy lucre.” In other words he should not be doing it for money. Unfortunately, many churches are in such financial difficulty that the pastors are under pressure to get as much money as possible from those who attend their churches. Too bad that such churches were not established on a pay-as-you-go basis. If they had been, the pastors would not be making such an emphasis on money.


One more important criteria for a pastor to receive the crown of glory is to not be “lord over God’s heritage.” A pastor should have developed his own Christian character so that he is an example to other believers, and leads by example. Of course, a pastor is to lead the sheep, but he is not to rule over the sheep. A Christian congregation should not have a division of laity and clergy, but should be a true brotherhood of equals. A pastor has a responsibility of leadership, but he should not control, dominate, or manipulate the believers in his congregation. Jesus said in Revelation 2:15, “So hast thou also them that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitanes, which thing I hate.” The Nicolaitanes are those who rule over a congregation.


There is one other crown called the crown of life. Jesus said in Revelation 2:10, “Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried: and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.” This crown has to do with suffering for Christ. If you become a believer in Jesus and desire to follow Him, you will be called to suffer something for His name’s sake. There may be some great trial, some great tribulation, or some great persecution that you are called upon to endure. It says in James 1:12, “Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.”


We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ: not of works. But once we are saved, there is still much that can be lost. We can lose our rewards. These rewards are crowns. The crowns power and authority that will be handed out to be used throughout eternity in the Kingdom of heaven. Do not lose your rewards. As it says in Isaiah 62:11, “Say ye to the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy salvation cometh; behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him.”

JESUS CHRIST IS GOD ALMIGHTY

That Jesus Christ is Himself YHWH (1), God Almighty come in the flesh, is so obviously taught in Scripture that it is baffling to hear some who claim adherence to the Bible deny it. Yet many sects such as the Jehovah's Witnessess, Armstrongism, the Christadelphians, the Way International, etc., etc. not only make this denial but teach their followers that it is Biblical to do so!

What follows is a presentation of what Scripture teaches concerning Christ's Deity. The basic text of this article is made up primarily of Scripture passages. The King James Version is basically followed, though some ultra-archaic wording may be updated. I have italicized words necessarily inserted by the KJV translators, just as they did. Clarifications are inserted in parenthesis, and key words are emphasized for the reader using bold type. All Scripture references are in red type.
Explanatory remarks are made occasionally, but have been kept to a minimum. Any quotes or sources are contained in the endnotes.

THE WORSHIP ISSUE

God's Word is explicit in teaching that YHWH alone is to be "worshipped" (Ex. 34:14Ps. 81:997:7Matt. 4:10/Luke 4:8Rev. 19:10). We are given examples in God's Word of people who were rebuked, chastised, or judged for worshipping the creation (Zeph. 1:5Acts 7:42Romans 1:25), "gods" (Joshua 242 Kings 171 Cor. 8:5), idols (Lev. 19:426:11 Chr. 16:262 Chron. 34:71 Cor. 10:141 Jn. 5:21), images (Ex. 20:4Isa. 42:8, 1744:15Jer. 8:19Rom. 1:23Rev.16:219:20), "relics" (2 Kings 18:4), material things (Matt. 16:26Luke 12:20Acts 17:29Col. 3:5), "saints" (Matt. 17:4Acts 10:25-26), and even angels(Col. 2:18Rev. 19:10).

God says, "I am YHWH: that is My Name: and My glory I will not give to another ... For My own sake, even for My own sake, will I do it: for how should My Name be polluted? and I will not give My glory to another." - Isaiah 42:8 and 48:11.

With the above in mind, now read the following passages of Scripture concerning none other than Jesus Christ :

1. " ... (the wise men) saw the young child (newborn Jesus) with Mary His mother, and fell down, and worshipped Him (JESUS- not His mother!) ... "MATTHEW 2:11

2. "And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped Him ..." MATTHEW 8:2

3. "Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped Him, saying, 'It is true You are the Son of God.'" MATTHEW 14:33

4. "And as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, 'All hail.' And they came and held Him by the feet, and worshipped Him."MATTHEW 28:9

5. "And when they saw Him (JESUS), they worshipped Him; but some doubted." MATTHEW 28:17

6. "But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped Him." MARK 5:6

7. "And it came to pass, while He blessed them, He was parted from them, and carried up into heaven, and they worshipped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy ..." LUKE 24:52

8. "And he (a 'sinner') said, 'Lord, I believe,' and he worshipped Him." JOHN 9:38

9. "And again, when (The Father) brings in the First-begotten into the world, He says, 'And let all the angels of God worship Him (JESUS- Psalm 148:2).'" HEBREWS 1:6

10. "And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands; Saying with a loud voice, 'Worthy is the Lamb (JESUS) that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing, And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard, I saying, 'Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto Him that sits on the throne, and unto the Lamb (JESUS) forever and ever. And the four beasts said, 'Amen.' And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped Him that lives forever and ever." REVELATION 5:12-14

There is no way around this fact of Scripture : Jesus Christ is worshipped. God says that He will not share His glory with "another." Yet those who deny Christ's Deity must insist that He do just this, because if Jesus is worshipped but is not God Himself, then God has given His glory to "another." Next time you speak with one who denies that Jesus is God show them the above words penned by Isaiah the prophet. As he/she reads the passage say : "You've got a serious problem there, friend!"

Reader, this is the crux of all debates concerning the Deity of Christ : He is worshipped, and that with His Own approval and the approval of the Father. He is often worshipped by Jews in the above passages - Jews who would never deny their monotheistic faith! How much clearer can it get? If this fact alone were all the proof I had for Christ's Deity, I would be on solid ground.

THE OLD TESTAMENT

Although most often speaking proleptically of Christ in His humanity, the Old Testament contains some very clear passages that set forth His Deity :

1. "(Job speaking) For I know that my Redeemer lives (present tense), and that He shall stand at the latter day upon the earth (obviously Christ at His second coming- Rev. 21-22): And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God (obviously Christ- John 1:1814:9;Rev. 22): Whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another (Christ is truly God) ... " JOB 19:25-27


2. "For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given: and the government shall be upon His shoulder: and His Name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The Mighty God (YHWH Himself- cf. Isa. 10:2149:26Jer. 32:18), The Everlasting Father (John 14:9-10Heb. 3:6), the Prince of Peace (cf. Eph. 2:14) ... " ISAIAH 9:6


3. "But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall He come forth (JESUS- cf. Matt. 2:1, 5-6;Luke 2:4; John 7:42) unto Me that is to be ruler in Israel; Whose goings forth (Heb. 'mowtsa'ah'= a family descent) have been from of old, fromeverlasting (Heb. 'olam'= eternity; cf. Ps. 90:2Jer. 10:10) ... " MICAH 5:2


4. "Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before Me (YHWH): and the Lord, Whom you seek, shall suddenly come to Histemple, even the Messenger of the Covenant, Whom you delight in: behold, He shall come, says YHWH of Hosts. But who may abide the day ofHis coming? and who shall stand when He appears? for He is like a refiner's fire, and like fuller's soap (cf. Matt. 3:11) ..." MALACHI 3:1-2 

PARALLEL PASSAGES

It is a simple matter to demonstrate that Jesus Christ is God Himself by carefully reading certain parallel passages of Scripture:

1. "(YHWH speaking to Moses - v. 5) Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink." EXODUS 17:6

WITH

"(Israel) did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them; and that Rock was Christ (cf. Psalm 18:2)." 1 CORINTHIANS 10:4


2. " ... the seventh day is the sabbath of YHWH your God ... For in six days YHWH 
made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them: therefore YHWH blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it (Gen. 2:2-3)." EXODUS 20:10-11

The above comparisons (by no means exhaustive) are obvious, clearly revealing that the Lord Jesus Christ is none other than God Himself. Note that in many cases the writers of the New Testament applied Old Testament references to YHWH (God Almighty) to Jesus, showing that Jesus is indeed YHWH Himself.

THE NEW TESTAMENT

1. "And (Mary) shall bring forth a son, and you shall call His Name JESUS (YHWH 
Saviour): for He shall save His people from their sins. Now all this was done that 
it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet (Isa. 7:14), saying, 'Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call His Name Emmanuel,' which being interpreted is, God with us." MATTHEW 1:21-23

The above 82 New Testament passages, along with the rest of the evidence submitted, cannot be explained away. Surely all of the passages are not "mistranslations"! I in no way claim to understand everything about "the mystery of Godliness," for it is truly a mystery to our finite minds. The historic creeds of the Church perhaps go too far in attempting to explain the "mechanism" of the Incarnation. But what is clear from Scripture is that the Father and the Son are distinct, yet both are actually "one" God (the same of course is true of the Holy Spirit as well). Further, Jesus Christ is truly "God manifest in the flesh." This gets very complex when we are forced by the same inspired scriptures to acknowledge that Jesus Christ was (and is) truly human - He was conceived, born, ate, breathed, slept, wept, and died. But how can One Who is the Immortal God die? I must confess that I have no idea, but I believe it in faith ... leaving the "secret things" to the Lord my God (Deut. 29:29).


"A man who can read the New Testament and not see 
that Christ claims to be more than a man, can look all 
over the sky at high noon on a cloudless day and not 
see the sun." (20)


END NOTES

(1) This is the name of God, as revealed in the Old Testament. Called the tetragrammaton, the Jews left it unpronounced and unwritten, even in transcribed copies of the Scriptures. It has often been translated into English as Yahweh or (I believe incorrectly) as the Germanized "Jehovah."

(2) A very significant fact often ignored is that while many in the Old Testament spoke on behalf of God, using phrases such as "Thus says YHWH," Jesus Christ never did this. Instead, Jesus spoke on His Own authority, even when interpreting Divine Law!

(3) Although often used as a proof that Christ was not Deity, such an interpretation will not stand up to close scrutiny for several reasons. First, most sects and teachers using this passage to disprove Christ's Deity prove too much, as the same sects and teachers would no doubt maintain along with the rich young man that He is indeed "good". Second, this particular word (Grk. agathos) is used of many things, even by Jesus Himself as a generic term for people who are "good" (Matt. 5:4512:3513:3822:1025:21, 23). Third, other words are clearly used of Jesus that would be inappropriate if such an interpretation is correct: hagios ("holy" -Acts 3:14) and dikaios ("just" - Acts 3:147:5222:14; and "righteous" - 1 John 2:1) are both used of Jesus, and that with the article (creating a title in each case - i.e., "the Holy One"; "the Just One"; "the Righteous" - this suggests intrinsic qualities). Considering these facts, and also that the passage in question (as well as the parallels in Mark and Luke) contains no direct denial from Jesus but only the question itself, it is more reasonable to regard this as an invitation to recognize Who He really was cast in a teaching style used often by Jesus (cf. Matt. 22:2022:42-45 for example). Further support for such an interpretation is to be found in the abundance of Scripture cited in this article as clearly setting forth His true Deity.

(4) The one "Name" has reference to Deity, as is clear from Zechariah 14:9Acts 10:48; and Revealtion 14:1 compared with 22:4.

(5) A comparison of John 1:12 with 2 Peter 1:3-4 also makes it clear that Jesus Christ is God by nature. To be given the "power to become children of God" is to be made "partakers of the Divine nature" - i.e., Christ's very nature is Divine - a fact amplified by the above suggested comparison. Also see Ephesians 1:231 Peter 5:1; and Hebrews 6:4.

(7) A casual reading of this verse has led some to believe that the above emphasized statement was the mis-interpretation of Jesus' words by the Jews. Not so - this is the inspired statement of the Apostle John writing as the Gospel's author! This establishes once and for all that the title "Son of God" denotes not inferiority (as some have claimed), but equality - hence it is a title of Deity. Therefore, we can add all references to "the Son of God" to this compilation of passages proving Christ's Deity!

(8) Winkie Pratney notes that the Greek word translated as "one" here is "Not heis, which is masculine, but hen, which is neuter; not one person, but one substance, one essence." (The Nature and Character of God, Minneapolis, Minnesota: Bethany House, 1988, p. 354 - emphasis mine).

(9) This statement alone means that Christ is Himself Deity. God will not give His glory to "another" according to Isaiah 42:8 and 48:11. Therefore, whatever Christ "is," He cannot be "another" alongside God.

(10) Psalm 24:10 reads: "Who is this King of Glory? YHWH of Hosts, He is the King of Glory. Selah (i.e., pause to contemplate)." 1 Corinthians 2:8 above, using the accepted principle of "comparing Scripture with Scripture," clearly identifies Jesus Christ with YHWH Himself by revealing that the One "crucified" was, in fact, "the Lord of Glory."

(11) Few have carefully considered what Paul here sets forth. Paul is contrasting polytheistic idolatry with monotheistic Christianity. Yet Paul's monotheism includes one God and one Lord, including Jesus Christ in that identification. Clearly then, given the context of his argument, Paul is describing Jesus Christ as true Deity.

(12) The significance of this claim is that man in general is "in" God's image and "after" His likeness. In contrast, Jesus Christ is that Divine image!

(13) Both "forms" are parallel. If "the form of a servant" refers to Jesus Christ becoming man (as it obviously does) then "the form of God" must refer to Him being God.

(14) The word here translated (KJV) "fashion" is the Greek word schema, which together with the wording chosen signifies a change in external circumstance.

(15) This fact in and of itself denotes Supreme Deity - cf. Romans 11:36.

(16) These are very important verses, though often neglected. Redemptive grace is our's by Christ precisely because He accomplished our salvation as Deity. These verses provide the clue to Christ's infinite worth in redemption, a concept often thought to have no basis in Scripture whatsoever. To receive "of His fulness" (Jn. 1:16) is to "obtain His glory" (2 Thes. 2:14), to be made a "partaker of the Divine nature" (2 Peter 1:4). The author hopes to soon make this the subject of another article.

(17) The word "and" here clearly identifies what follows as another statement from Father to Son, thereby identifying the Son as YHWH Himself.

(18) The veil concealed God (Lev. 16:2); in equating "the veil" with Christ's flesh (humanity), the author of Hebrews is claiming that He is Deity in flesh.

A. WHY DID JESUS NOT OPENLY REVEAL HIS FULL IDENTITY?

  1. Why didn't Jesus ever say clearly, "I am God. Worship Me!"? (He did say it indirectly - John 6:41,42; 8:58; 17:4,5; etc.)
  2. Why didn't He say publicly, "I am Messiah; Believe in Me!"? (Privately he did - John 4:28.) The Jews demanded that Jesus clearly declare whether or not He was the Messiah (Luke 22:67-70).
  3. Why did He very seldom call Himself "the Son of God"? (See John 5:25; 10:36; 11:4) Although by calling God His "Father"He certainly implied it (Matt. 27:43). The Jews still demanded that He say so clearly (Luke 22:70). The term, "Son of God" is used synonymously by Jews to mean Messiah, so this is the same as b. above.
  4. Instead, why did He almost always called Himself, "The Son of Man?"
  5. Furthermore, why did He forbid those who knew His true identity to tell anyone?:
    1. His disciples: - "'But what about you? Who do you say that I am?' Simon Peter answered, 'You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God!' ... Then he warned his disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Christ." (Matthew 16:15,16,20; see also Mark 8:29,30)
    2. the demons: - "... He also drove out many demons, but He would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was." (Mark 1:34 - see also verses 24,25); "Whenever the evil spirits saw him, they fell down before him, and cried out, 'You are the Son of God.' But he gave them strict orders not to tell who he was." (Mark 3:11,12); "Moreover, demons came out of many people, shouting, 'You are the Son of God!' But He rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew He was the Christ." (Luke 4:41)
    3. those He healed: - "... and he healed all their sick, warning them not to tell who he was." (Matthew 12:15,16); "Immediately he was cured of his leprosy. Then Jesus said to him, 'See that you don't tell anyone ...'" (Matthew 8:3,4); Immediately the (dead) girl stood up and walked around. At this they were completely astonished. He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this." (Mark 5:42,43)
  6. Why did He refuse to accept challenges to prove His identity?:
    1. by Satan: - "If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread ... If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down ..." (Matthew 4:3,6)
    2. by the common people: - "Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, '... Save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God.'" (Matt. 27:39,40)
    3. by the chief priests, teachers and elders: - "He saved others, but he can't save himself! He's the King of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him ... for he said, 'I am the Son of God.'" (Matthew 39:41-43)
  7. Why did He always speak to the people in parables?: 
    "The disciples came to him and asked, 'Why do you speak to the people in parables?' He replied, 'The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them ... This is why I speak to them in parables: "Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand." In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah: "You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving ..."' Jesus spoke all these things to the crowd in parables; he did not say anything to them without using a parable. So was fulfilled what was spoken through the prophet: 'I will open my mouth in parables, I will utter things hidden since the creation of the world.'" (Matthew 13:10,11,13,14,34,35) 
    "He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him." (Jn.1:10)

B. BECAUSE THIS IS A SPIRITUAL TRUTH; NOT A HUMAN ONE:

  1. Because there are two things about Christ a person cannot understand by himself:
    1. Who Jesus really is - "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." ... "Blessed are you, Simon, son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by man, but by my Father in Heaven." (Matthew 16:15-17)
    2. The Atonement Jesus provided - "For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing . . . The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned." (1 Corinthians 1:18; 2:14)
  2. Because God's secret wisdom is known only by revelation:
    • "The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may follow all the words of this law." (Deut. 29:29)
    • "... He brings hidden things to light." (Job 28:11)
    • "Truly you are a god who hides himself." (Isaiah 45:15)
    • "From now on, I will teach you of new things, of hidden things unknown to you." (Is.48:6)
    • "Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know." (Jeremiah 33:3)
    • "He reveals deep and hidden things; he knows what lies in darkness, and light dwells with him." (Daniel 2:22)
    • "It is written in the prophets: 'They will all be taught by God.'" (John 6:45)
    • "When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence of superior wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified ... My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words . . . not the wisdom of this age . . . we speak of God's secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden . . . " (1 Corinthians 2:1-8)
    • "... that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. ... the mystery of Christ ..." (Colossians 2:2,3; 4:3 - see also 1:26,27)
  3. Because a person cannot believe in Jesus unless:
    1. he/she is drawn to the Father - "All that the Father gives me will come to me . . . No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him ... This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless the Father has enabled him." (John 6:37,44,65)
    2. The Holy Spirit reveals Christ to him/her - "' . . . no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him' but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit . . . we have . . . received . . . the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us." (1 Corinthians 2:9-13)
    3. He is revealed through the Scriptures - " . . . these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name." (John 20:31) (see also John 5;39,40; Rom.16:25,26; Eph.3:4,5)
  4. Because Satan has blinded the minds of people: "The god of this world has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ . . . " (2 Corinthians 4:4)

To understand what motivates this article, you must read another one:

The Qur'an Attacks ... Christianity?

How am I supposed to reply to that? From those verses it is reasonable for Muslims who have not read the Bible to have certain pre-conceived ideas and expectations about how the Bible describes Jesus using the words begotten and son.

There is only one well-known verse in the Bible that discusses begotten and son in the context of Jesus.

This article talks about the meaning of these words in that context.

Discussion

For God so loveth the world, 
that he hath given his only son
that none that believe in him, 
should perish: 
but should have everlasting life.

Perhaps you know this verse from the Bible. Notice the words only son are emphasised. That is because they are the subject of this article. In the original Greek, that's μονογενης υιος, or monogenes huios, transliterated.

It is not generally known that ninety percent of the 1611 King James Version is from Tyndale's translation, which I quoted from above. Now, it just so happens that part of the ten percent where they differ is here in the words only son.

For God so loved the world, 
that he gave his only begotten Son 
that whosoever believeth in him 
should not perish 
but have everlasting life. 

—John 3:16, King James Version (KJV), 1611.

The King James Version (KJV) was so influential that it became the standard translation for the next 300 years. And it is still in widespread use.

So where did this word begotten come from? The word that is being translated as only begotten by the KJV ismonogenes. The KJV translators liked to translate word-for-word when it was possible. So when they came tomonogenes they translated mono as only and genes as begotten. That is easy.

Can the word Son have a symbolic meaning? Yes. The word υιος (or huios, word #5207 in Strong's Concordance) has been used in a symbolic sense in these passages, among others:
to them he gave the name Boanerges, which means Sons of Thunder 
—Mark 3:17

Adam, the son of God. 
—Luke 3:38

You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus 
—Galatians 3:26

Currently the best-selling English translation of the Bible is the New International Version (NIV). Here is how the NIV renders John 3:16:

For God so loved the world 
that he gave his one and only Son
that whoever believes in him 
shall not perish 
but have eternal life.

The NIV adds as a footnote,
         3:16 Or his only begotten Son

So now begotten is in the footnote and not in the main text. Why?

Begotten Or Not Begotten, That Is The Question

Reasons why monogenes should not be translated as only begotten:

The word monogenes also appears elsewhere in the New Testament:

By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only [monogenesson, even though God had said to him, "It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned." Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and figuratively speaking, he did receive Isaac back from death. 
—Hebrews 11:17-19 (NIV)

This time the NIV (1973) does not have an explanatory footnote offering only begotten as an alternate rendering, as it does for John 3:16, but it is the same Greek word monogenes. To say Isaac was Abraham’s only-begotten son would make no sense since according to the Bible, Abraham begat Ishmael as well as Isaac. But "one of a kind", "one and only", or "unique" would fit because Isaac was special. Abraham's wife, Sarah, was too old to have a child but she nevertheless became pregnant.

Dr. James R. White notes,

The key element to remember in deriving the meaning of monogenes is this: it is a compound term, combining monos, meaning only, with a second term. Often it is assumed that the second term is gennasthai/gennao, to give birth, to beget. But note that this family of terms has two nu’s, νν, rather than a single nu, ν, found in monogenes. This indicates that the second term is not gennasthai butgignesthai/ginmai, and the noun form, genos. G. L. Prestige discusses the differences that arise from these two derivations in God in Patristic Thought (London: SPCK, 1952), 37-51, 135-141, 151-156.

Genos means "kind or type", ginomai is a verb of being. Hence the translations "one of a kind," "one and only," "of sole descent." Some scholars see the -genes element as having a minor impact upon the meaning of the term, and hence see monogenes as a strengthened form of monos, thereby translating it "alone," "unique," "incomparable."

An example of this usage from the LXX is found in Psalm 25:16,

turn to me and be gracious to me, 
for I am lonely (monogenes) and afflicted:

Note that the so-called LXX (mentioned above) is a Greek translation of the Hebrew Old Testament that existed in Jesus' day. Sometimes we can gain insight into Greek New Testament words by how Hebrew words were translated into Greek by the Jewish scholars. In this case, the Hebrew word for lonely was translated into Greek as monogenes. So this helps us justify that monogenes means "alone," "unique," or "incomparable."

Reasons why monogenes may be translated as only begotten:

From the discussion above, we see that the seemingly obvious translation of monogenes to only begottenmay not be the most accurate. However, the Greek word monogenes does not have a single equivalent corresponding word in English.

I personally used to think that only begotten was just a reference in passing to the virgin birth. That surely makes Jesus special, unique, one-of-a-kind. So in a round-about way, only begotten may be as good as any other translation, for those who interpret these words in the context of the Bible, without pre-conceived ideas.

What Makes Jesus Unique?

There are three reasons given above why monogenes should be translated unique, or some similar word. So why is Jesus unique?

Jesus is The Way

Jesus answered,

"I am

    the way

and

    the truth

and

    the life.

No one comes to the Father
except through me."

—John 14:6

If you don't know why Jesus is called unique, then I would suggest you should go read the Bible for yourself.

Whether you go to heaven or hell is more up to you than it is up to God:

God provided the way (Jesus said I am the way), but He can't make you take the way. God gavethe gift of life (He gave His only begotten son, so that you should not perish, but have eternal life), but He cannot make you receive the gift. You must take it for yourself. God is not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. (2 Peter 3:9). Nevertheless, people do perish in hell. But it is not God's will.

If I were in a tall building and I heard someone shout "Fire! Fire! Fire!", then, well, I would not believe it just because someone said it, but I nevertheless would walk down the stairs and look around and convince myself that there is, or is not, a fire.

But you, and I, are in danger of a fate that is worse than a burning building. Jesus, the main prophet of the world's largest religion, warns of hell,

the eternal fire
    prepared for the devil and his angels,

the darkness,
    where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth,

where their worm does not die,
    and the fire is not quenched.

Therefore I would suggest you read the Bible for yourself.

Jesus was tempted, yet without sin

just as we are—yet was without sin.

In fact, Jesus probably faced greater temptation than anyone else. He was hungry but refused to eat a bite of bread outside the will of God. He refused the riches of this world, and the adoration of men, that God did not provide. Jesus was tempted, yet was without sin because of his determined attitude of obedience to God.

The devil could find no fault in Jesus, although he tried:

Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the desert, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry. The devil said to him, "If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread."

Jesus answered, "It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone.’ "

The devil led him up to a high place and showed him in an instant all the kingdoms of the world. And he said to him, "I will give you all their authority and splendor, for it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. So if you worship me, it will all be yours."

Jesus answered, "It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve him only.’ "

The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down from here. For it is written: " ‘He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully; they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’ "

Jesus answered, "It says: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’ "

When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until an opportune time. 
—Luke 4:1-13

Jesus' opponents, the religious leaders, could find no fault in Jesus, although they tried:

The teachers of the law and the chief priests looked for a way to arrest [Jesus] immediately, because they knew he had spoken this parable against them. But they were afraid of the people. Keeping a close watch on him, they sent spies, who pretended to be honest. They hoped to catch Jesus in something he said so that they might hand him over to the power and authority of the governor.
—Luke 20:19-20

They were unable to trap him in what he had said there in public. And astonished by his answer, they became silent.
—Luke 20:26

And no one dared to ask him any more questions.
—Luke 20:40

The temple guards found no fault in Jesus:

Finally the temple guards went back to the chief priests and Pharisees, who asked them, "Why didn't you bring him in?"

"No one ever spoke the way this man does," the guards declared.
—John 7:45-46

Judas, a close associate who betrayed Jesus for money, declared him innocent:

When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty silver coins to the chief priests and the elders. "I have sinned," he said, "for I have betrayed innocent blood." 
—Matt 27:3-4

Pontius Pilate could find no fault with Jesus:

"Why? What crime has he committed?" asked Pilate.

But they shouted all the louder, "Crucify him!" When Pilate saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. "I am innocent of this man's blood," he said. "It is your responsibility!"
—Matt 27:23-24

God was pleased with Jesus:

When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven:

"You are my Son, whom I love; 
with you I am well pleased."
—Luke 3:21-22

 
While he was still speaking, a bright cloud enveloped them, and a voice from the cloud said,

"This is my Son, whom I love;
with him I am well pleased. 
Listen to him!"
—Matthew 17:5

Therefore

  • neither God,
  • nor man,
  • nor the devil,
could find fault with Jesus.

That makes Jesus unique!

Jesus humbled himself, and became obedient

Finally, I would like to leave you with the passage from the Bible that most clearly describes the relationship between God and Jesus.

Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:

Who, being in very nature God,
   did not consider equality with God 
   something to be grasped, but

made himself nothing,
   taking the very nature of a servant,
   being made in human likeness.

And being found in appearance as a man, 
   he humbled himself
   and became obedient to death—
   even death on a cross!

Therefore God exalted him 
   to the highest place

and gave him the name 
   that is above every name,

that at the name of Jesus 
   every knee should bow, 
   in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

and every tongue confess
   that Jesus Christ is Lord,
   to the glory of God the Father.

—Philippians 2:5-11

Why was Jesus exalted to the highest place? Because he was a special person?

No. Jesus is a special and unique person, but was exalted to the highest place because

he humbled himself, 
and became obedient.

But the purpose of these verses is to instruct you to be as Jesus was. As it says,

Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus.

Therefore you should humble yourself, and become obedient to God, as Jesus did. You should live blamelessly before God, man and the devil, as Jesus did. You should be steadfastly determined to resist temptation and sin, as Jesus did.

We may fail, but we must try and keep trying.
Jesus never failed, because Jesus is unique!

This whole begotten issue does not exist in German, because there is not one translation that says so.

Jesus warned of hell:

There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores and longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.

The time came when [Lazarus] died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried. In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’

Rather than being offended, as some people, let us determine to diligently seek God, and share what we know. God rewards those who earnestly seek him. Those who have gone before remain in whatever state they are in; they cannot be helped or hurt by what we say or do. Not so for us who live; our eternal destiny is still at stake.

QUESTION #1: "WHY DO CHRISTIANS COVER UP THEIR ABSURD TEACHINGS ABOUT GOD BY CALLING THEM ‘A MYSTERY’? ISLAM IS CLEAR IN SAYING GOD IS ONE!" (Western converts to Islam often express their relief to find that, "Islam's teaching about God is straight forward, and void of the ‘mysteries’ of Christianity, such as the trinity and the deity of Christ, which never made sense to me.")

ANSWER: If, after so many years of scientific research, the physical universe, in which we live, is still beyond our complete understanding, why should we think it strange that we cannot fully understand the invisible Creator of this universe? In fact if we could completely understand God, then we would be equal to Him! The Bible tells us:

As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:8,9)

How unsearchable his judgments and his paths beyond tracing out. (Romans 11:33)


QUESTION #2: "DO YOU BELIEVE IN THREE GODS?"

ANSWER #1: "Jesus Himself said that God is One": Someone asked him about the commandments of God : "‘The most important one,’ answered Jesus, ‘is this: "Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one."’" (Mark 12:29)

ANSWER #2: "The Bible categorically states 28 times that God is One!":

  • In the Torah (Taurat): Deut. 6:4,5 - "Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength." (see also Deut. 4:35; Deut. 4:39; I Kings 8:60; 2 Kings 19:19);
  • In the Psalms (Zabur): Ps. 86:10 - "For you are great and do marvelous deeds; you alone are God."
  • In the books of the prophets: Isaiah 44:6,8 - "This is what the Lord says ... I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God." "You are my witnesses. Is there any God besides me? No, there is no other Rock; I know not one." (see also Is. 37:16; Is. 37:20; Is. 43:10,11; Is. 44:24; Is. 45:5; Is. 45:6; Is. 45:18; Is. 45:21; Is. 46:9; Is. 48:12; Hosea 13:4)
  • In the New Testament (Injil): 1 Tim. 2:5,6a - "For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave himself as a ransom for all men." (see also Mark 12:29; John 5:44; Rom. 3:30; I Cor. 8:4; Eph. 4:6; I Tim. 1:17; James 2:19; Jude 25)

ANSWER #3: God created all things by Himself: I am the Lord, who has made all things, who alone stretched out the heavens, who spread out the earth by myself. (Isaiah 44:24). He uses several metaphors to describe how He did it:

  • by His Wisdom: I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence ... The Lord brought me forth as the first of his works, before his deeds of old; I was appointed from eternity, from the beginning, before the world began. When there were no oceans, I was given birth ... I was there when he set the heaven in place ... Then I was the craftsman as his side... (Proverbs 8:1-31) Did God ever exist without wisdom? No! Did God create his own wisdom? No! God's wisdom is "from eternity, from the beginning." God's wisdom was "brought forth" at the time of creation, and by His wisdom God created everything. But God made the earth by his power; he founded the world by his wisdom and stretched out the heavens by his understanding. (Jeremiah 10:12)
  • by His Right Hand: My own hand laid the foundations of the earth and my right hand spread out the heavens. (Isaiah 48:13) Does this mean that God's right hand created instead of God Himself? Of course not! God created everything by His right hand - by His power.
  • by The Breath of His Mouth: By the word of the Lord were the heavens made, their starry host by the breath of his mouth ... For he spoke, and it came to be; he commanded, and it stood firm. (Psalm 33:6,9) These verses clearly show that the breath of God's mouth and God's word are the same.
  • by His Word: In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. (John 1:1-3) The Word of God is the communication or manifestation of God. God's Word is God Himself; not a second God. The Word was "with" God (two?) and yet the Word "was" God (one)! Now notice verse 14: The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, Who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. Somehow, by the power of God, God's eternal word ‘became’ a human being like us named Jesus! (God can do anything!) Jesus is God's word, the breath of His mouth, His right hand and His wisdom, through whom all things were created.


QUESTION #3: "HOW CAN JESUS BE GOD? WHY DO YOU BLASPHEME BY CALLING JESUS ‘GOD’?"

GENERAL ANSWER: Explanation from John 1:1-3,14: "The eternal Word of God, which was with God (seems like two) in the beginning, also was God (one; not two). Everything Allah created, He created by saying, ‘Be!’ - He created everything by His Word. Allah's Word is not another God; Allah's Word is Allah's communication of Himself. Can Allah exist without His Word? Was there ever a time when Allah's Word did not exist? It is like my word or communication, which is in one sense a part of me, but is not a second being, separate from me. So Allah is One, and He has Word, which comes out from Him and communicates Him. Jesus is ‘Kalamat Ullah,’ the Word of Allah, who came out from Allah and came into the world as a human being. God in His sovereignty chose to reveal Himself to us - by His Word, Who became a human being and lived among us, having become one of us."

THERE ARE REALLY THREE PARTS TO THIS QUESTION:

QUESTION #3a: "HOW CAN JESUS BE GOD WHEN HE DID THINGS GOD DOESN'T/WON'T DO? After all:

  • Jesus talked about God as His God, but God has no God.
  • Jesus prayed to God instead of to himself.
  • Jesus got hungry and thirsty (Matt. 4:2; John 19:28), but God never gets hungry or thirsty (Psalm 50:9-13; Acts 17:25).
  • Jesus was tempted by the devil (Matt.4:1 & Heb.4:15), but God cannot be tempted (James 1:13).
  • Jesus got tired (John 4:6; Matthew 8:24), but God doesn't get tired (Psalm 121:4; Isaiah 40:28).
  • Jesus learned obedience and grew up into a mature and perfect man (Hebrews 5:9), but God never changes (James 1:17).
  • Jesus was born and also died, but God is everlasting."

ANSWER: #1: "The description of Jesus we read in the Injil is the description of One Who ‘became’ a human being. Notice it does not say that a man somehow become God; it says Allah's eternal Word became a man. In Hebrews 2:17 it says Jesus became like us ‘in every way’ - bone of our bone and flesh of our flesh! Therefore, because He became a real human being just like us, He did things we do. If he didn't do those things he wouldn't really be one of us.

"Jesus is Almighty God, but for our sake when He became a man He chose to no longer function as God. He is still God and could use His powers as God, but chose instead to only function as a man.

"As a human being, He was born, grew in knowledge and maturity, got hungry & thirsty, got tired and sleepy, prayed to His ‘Father’ in heaven, was tempted in every way that we are (but he never sinned), and died (but God raised Him up victorious over death). All these things prove He became a real human being. Jesus is not an apparition nor was he just pretending to be a man. As a human being, he had all of our needs and limitations, except for our sinful, fallen nature. One reason He is called the ‘last Adam’ (1 Cor.15:45) is because he became just like Adam was before he sinned."

QUESTION #3b: "HOW CAN JESUS BE GOD AND MAN AT THE SAME TIME? How can he be on earth praying to God in heaven, talking about God as ‘my Father’ and He and the Father still be one God?"

ANSWER #2: "God can do anything! Just as in the act of creation, God's eternal Word came out of Him when He spoke to create all things (but He did not become two gods), so when he spoke His eternal Word into the virgin Mary, God's Word remained God and at the same time became a man like us. Jesus never stopped being almighty Allah's Eternal Word. It says, ‘The Word became flesh ...’ (John 1:14); not ‘The Word changed to flesh.’ He is not sometimes God and sometimes man, nor is He half God and half man. He is both fully God and fully human at the same time!"

QUESTION #3c: "BUT WHAT NEED WOULD GOD HAVE TO DO SUCH A THING? He doesn't need Jesus or anyone else to die for us. God can forgive whomever He wants to forgive!"

ANSWER #3:

  1. God's Love: One of God's greatest attributes is love. True love is self giving (not taking) for the sake of another. God gave Himself to us in order to forgive us and save us from eternal judgement/death.

    ... he too shared in their humanity (flesh and blood) so that by his death he might destroy ... the devil and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death ... (Hebrews 2:14,15)

    He learned obedience from what he suffered and, once made perfect he became the source of eternal salvation ... (Hebrews 5:8,9)

  2. God's Justice: God's justice requires Him to do this. The Bible teaches that although God has the power to do anything ("For nothing is impossible with God". - Luke 1:37), He cannot do things like lie ("...it is impossible for God to lie..." - Heb. 6:18) or be unfaithful to His promises ("If we are faithless, he will remain faithful, for he cannot disown himself." - 2 Tim. 2:13) because He would be violating his own character and would no longer be God! He would self-destruct! To illustrate this, suppose I were to steal a very valuable item from your home and sell it to buy drugs or to gamble, and by the time you found me I had already wasted all the money. If I were then to confess my sin and beg your forgiveness, you would have a choice of either forgiving me and absorbing the loss or gaining some satisfaction by having me arrested and prosecuted. If you chose to forgive me, the cost of your forgiveness would be the value of the item I stole from you plus the shame of being burglarized. You would have to be willing to accept all that loss by choosing to give it to me. Suppose the judge took pity on me and decided to forgive me. You would certainly feel that judge was unjust! My family and friends could not forgive me no matter how much they might love me. No one but you could forgive me unless someone was willing to pay you the full value of the item I stole from you and you were willing to accept payment as compensation. Forgiveness is never just a matter of words because it is never free! Forgiveness can only be given by the person who is willing to absorb the injury, loss or cost involved. God is certainly not an unjust judge who would simply declare us forgiven because He wants to.

    We seem to be faced with a dilemma. If God forgave our sins without giving us the full punishment according to His own law, He would be unjust and would be violating himself. But if we are not forgiven we could never endure the eternal punishment in hell that we deserve. Therefore, the eternal Word of God became a man (Jesus) so he could take our punishment upon himself (God cannot die, but a man can die). He did this so that he could forgive us and be just in doing so. "... God presented him (Jesus) as a sacrifice of atonement...He did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as TO BE JUST and THE ONE WHO JUSTIFIES those who have faith in Jesus ..." (see Rom. 3:22-26).


OTHER BIBLE ANSWERS REGARDING THE DEITY OF CHRIST:

ANSWER #4: The greetings and salutations in the New Testament epistles seem to imply His deity in a unique way. All of these letters were written after Jesus had ascended to heaven and was no longer physically present with his people. Still the apostles presented him as:

  1. the co-author (with God the Father) of grace, peace, mercy and faith. Can these things come from a man?
  2. the co-sender of His apostles. Who else but God can send from heaven?
  3. our Savior in the same sentence where God is presented as our Savior.
  4. the one who is given glory for ever and ever. Who else but God can receive glory for ever and ever?
  5. one with whom we have fellowship just like we have fellowship with the Father, even though he is in heaven.
  6. the one who keeps us and brings us to eternal life. Can anyone but God do these things?

HERE ARE THE VERSES:

  • "Grace and peace to you from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ." (Rom. 1:7)
  • "Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ." (I Cor. 1:3)

  • "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit." (Phil. 4:23)
  • "To the church of the Thessalonians in God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ." (I Thess. 1:1)
  • "The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you." (I Thess. 5:28)
  • "To the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ: Grace and peace to you from God the Father and the Lord Jesus Christ." (2 Thess. 1:1,2)
  • "Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you...The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all." (2 Thess. 3:16,18)
  • "Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the command of God our Savior and of Christ Jesus our hope...Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord." (I Tim. 1:1,2)
  • "Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord." (2 Tim. 1:2)
  • "...by the command of God our Savior...Grace and peace from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Savior." (Titus 1:3,4)
  • "Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ." (Philemon 3)
  • "The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit." (Philemon 25)
  • "...through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen." (Heb. 13:21)
  • "James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ." (James 1:1)
  • "who have been chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through the sanctifying work of the Spirit, for obedience to Jesus Christ..." (I Pet. 1:2)
  • "to those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours: Grace and peace be yours in abundance through the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord." (2 Pet. 1:1,2)
  • "But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen." (2 Pet. 3:18)
  • "...And our fellowship is with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ." (I John 1:3)
  • "Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Father's Son, will be with us in truth and love." (2 John 3)
  • "To those who have been called, who are loved by God the Father and kept by Jesus Christ..." (Jude 1)
  • "Keep yourselves in God's love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life." (Jude 21)
  • "The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with God's people. Amen." (Rev. 22:21)

ANSWER #5: Study of Philippians 2:6-8: We read that Jesus, ‘being in very nature (morphae) God ... made himself nothing, taking the very nature (morphae) of a servant, being made in human likeness.’" Notice how the eternal God took upon Himself the very nature of a servant in becoming a man.

ANSWER #6: When did Jesus begin to exist?:

  • He was before John the Baptist (the prophet Yahyah) even though he was born 3 months after him. "This is the one I meant when I said, A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me" (John 1:29,30). He is both before and after John; both God and man!
  • He was before David who lived about 1000 BC. Jesus was born in the lineage of King David, but he is called, "I am the root and the offspring of David" (Revelation 22:16) because he existed before Him. He is both before and after David; both God and man!
  • He was before Abraham who lived about 2000 BC. Jesus said, "before Abraham was born I AM." (John 8:58). "I AM" = "Jahwah." He is both before and after Abraham; both God and man!
  • He was before the world began. Jesus said,"And now Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began." (John 17:5). He is both God and man!


QUESTION #4: "WHY WAS IT NECESSARY FOR JESUS TO BE BORN WITHOUT A HUMAN FATHER?"

ANSWER: Jesus was born of Mary so that he could be truly human, "bone of our bone and flesh of our flesh." It was necessary for him to be born without a human father in order to reveal his divine origin - to show he is from heaven; the eternal Word of God made flesh (John 1:13-14).

  • "The first man was of the dust of the earth, the second man from heaven." (I Cor. 15:47)
  • "... the one who came from heaven ... The one who comes from above ..." (John 3:13,31)
  • "...He who comes down from heaven ... For I have come down from heaven ..." (John 6:33,38)
  • "I am the living bread that came down from heaven." (John 6:51)
  • "... I am from above ... for I came from God." (John 8:23,42)
    [also many times Jesus said his heavenly "Father" had sent him]


QUESTION #5: "ISN'T ALLAH FAR ABOVE ALL HUMAN EMOTIONS? Isn't it wrong for us to sing or laugh in our worship of Allah? Isn't Allah above such human emotions as laughter, joy, grief, or love?"

ANSWER: More and more I am impressed with the truth of God's emotional make up. I have started collecting verses that talk about His grief, envy, jealousy, wrath, hate, rejoicing, singing, laughing, pleasure, delight, compassion and love. God has all these emotions, and we have them because we were created in His image. God is not like a human being; rather humans are like God! We sing, laugh, cry, get angry, grieve and rejoice because God does!

QUESTION #6: "HOW IS IT POSSIBLE FOR US TO HAVE AN INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP WITH ALMIGHTY GOD?"

ANSWER: God is so great (Allah-u-Akbar) and His love is so complete, that He enables us to have a relationship with him more intimate than any human relationship! Just look at what God's Word says:
